One page Site Rank by Russ Lobo

One Page Site Update:
So some of you may remember that on 8th Dec, 2016, I started a new site which was just one page. The main keyword had 27,100 monthly searches and an Ahrefs Keyword Difficulty score of 4.

After 3 months literally to the date, the site is now on Page 1 (10th position).

Timeline:
12/8/2016: Created 1000+ word post & social profiles
12/12/2016: 15 blog comments/2 web 2.0s/250 more words
12/15/2016: 27 outreach emails. 4 Linked to my website
Rank rose to 20th position
1/11/2017: Sent reminder emails. Got 1 new link. Added 1700 words
Rank rose to 18th position.
1/13/2017: Sent 100 new outreach emails. I didnt get new links but rank rose to 12th position. I assume its due to traffic to the site due to the 100 emails.
2/6/2017: 100 blog comments/ Few directory listings: No change in ranking.
2/27/2017: Shared images from the site on Pinterest and got 500 repins to the site (I am pretty active on Pinterest so was easy. Got a decent amount of traffic too)
Rank jumped to Position 10, Page 1 but immediately fell.
3/9/2017: Once again on Page 1, Position 10

Learnings:
1. You can beat sandbox and rank on Page 1 within the supposed six month period.
2. You can rank a site even if it just one page.

Stats:
Words on the Page: 1,000+250+1,700=2,950 words
Root domains linking to the site as per Google Console:
Outreach links: 5 links
Comment Links: 9 links
Directory links: 5 links
Social links: 3 links (YT, g+, pinterest)
web 2.0: 2 links
other links: 2 links (no idea where those came from)

Next target: Top 3 of Google for the keyword :D

What should be the next step after publishing post?- By Russell Lobo.

Question- [1] I created new website, launched it with 1 article, what should be the next step after publishing post? - Answer- 1. Make social profiles and web 2.0 profiles. I generally make 10 social profiles like Facebook, Twitter, etc and about 20 web 2.0s. 2. Link them to each other and to your site so that they become a brand-able fortress around your site. This creates a signal to google that your brand is strong. 3. Use IFTTT to get auto-updates of new posts that you create directly onto the social profiles and web 2.0s. This helps every new post of mine get 30+ backlinks (dofollow and nofollow) to it right on the first day. They may not have a lot of link juice but its better than no link juice especially since its effortless. 3. Make directory listings. I use the Top 10 Directories. They are nofollow and don't give too much link juice but I like it for link diversity 4. Press Releases (I haven't done it as yet but I am planning to for my next site) 5. Post good, valuable comments on 10 Top blog posts. 6. Post good, valuable comments on 10 Top blog posts related to my niche. 7. About 100 social signals to my site

Russ: After every article: 1. 10 blog posts on blogs related to the article 2. 50 social signals 3. Broken link building 4. Link building via email outreach 5. Conversion Rate Optimization: Focus on keeping the visitor on your site and making him take the desired action (subscribe to email, click on ad, click on affiliate link and buy, etc).

Pinterest Case Study by Russell Lobo

So as many of you may know, I am a die hard Google fan. I love the free traffic it sends and my earnings for the past 7 years which now are in the low 5 figures monthly have been majorly through it. However I like to try new sources of traffic and Pinterest is one that has been coming up often.

I tried my hand at Pinterest Promotion for getting traffic to my website in 2016 but they were half hearted efforts which didn't give me the returns or "proof of concept" that I was looking for. A major reason is that I have a more analytic mind rather than a visual leaning. In Jan I decided that I should get serious on Pinterest and dedicated a new website to focus only on Pinterest traffic.

So here goes my quick brief on it:

1. I created a site which was visually attractive. Lots of images with brief descriptions

2. I made a well optimized Pinterest profile (Use the same things that you use for Google on-page SEO i.e. keywords in the Board title, description, etc) 

3. Created 2 or 3 images per post that explain the posts with CTAs on them.
4. Scheduled posts to be published at a time I felt my potential audience is online. I posted at (2-4PM and 8-12 Midnight EST)

5. Followed relevant audience. I followed the followers of my competitors. Commented on their pins, liked it and and repined it.
6. Identified relevant pins and pinned them too on my boards (I like to keep a ratio of 1:2 one of mine for every two I repinned)
7. Join groups (I didnt do this as yet as my following at the moment is low and I may not be accepted. I will try this once I cross 1,000 followers)

Point 1 to 4 were one time efforts. I guess I may have spent 8-10 hours doing it.

Point 5 & 6 are daily efforts though it should not take you more than 10-15 min per day to do it. You can also use a tool like Viraltag, Boardbooster or Tailwind to schedule your pins.

My results after the first month i.e. Results for Feb:

1. 193,407 average monthly views on Pinterest for my images -source: Pinterest Analytics (screenshot 1)
2. 1,820 visitors and 3,818 pageviews. source-statcounter (screenshot 2)
3. And the most important metric: $119.62 in Google Adsense earnings via 178 ad clicks source: Adsense (screenshot 3)
Note: Pageviews of the two images may differ as some posts are not monetized with Adsense.

Whom this will help:
1. If you have a new site and are not getting traffic, this could help bring in a good amount of traffic
2. If you have a site and want to increase/diversify your source of traffic
3. If you struggle with content writing or link building and would
want to start a visual focused site.

Additional Points:
1. Google seens Pinterest repins as a social signal and a nofollow link so it helps in Google ranking
2. Increased traffic to your website from Pinterest could be a ranking factor (I have seen this on other websites)
3. I like this source of traffic as even on days I didnt promote e.g. weekends, etc, traffic still came in.

An income of $100+ from the very first month is something that will help new website owners validate the potential of online earnings so I thought should share
